INNER / OUTER

I have always been fascinated by ideas of lines as boundaries, not least because they create walls between that which is and that which is not. We draw lines in the sand, establish rules and systems, based on ideas of lines as boundaries. Then we base our ideas of contradictions and opposites on this, both are powerful phenomena that affect our thought and perception.
The works in the exhibition, the idea behind them, is inspired by three books: A graphic novel, a children's book about opposites that I read as a child; the idea that opposites do not exist from Beyond good and evil by Nietzsche; and a Japanese book on the synergy of different colours. There is something about what colours go together and which do not, that in my view supports the view that pure dualism is not always appropriate. That life should be lived in equilibrium and synergy, rather than focus on the line that decides what is and what is not.
